Woman Loses 100lbs After Keeping Daily Promise to Herself

 Jennifer Brown, a 42-year-old woman from Iowa, had always believed that she couldn't do certain things, especially when it came to fitness and exercise. This belief stemmed from her childhood experiences, where she struggled to pass a physical fitness test that required her to run a mile in less than 15 minutes. Despite her past failures, Brown made a promise to herself to run one mile every day, no matter what. Over the course of three years, her dedication paid off, and she managed to lose almost 100lbs. Brown's story is a testament to the power of overcoming self-doubt and pushing oneself to achieve their goals.


@thisiowamom, also known as Brown on TikTok and Instagram, recently went viral with a video showcasing her weight loss journey. The video, which features her running a mile every day, has garnered over 13.8 million views and 900,000 likes. Witness her physical transformation and inspiring story on social media.

Jennifer Brown, pictured on the left in August 2019 and on the right in October 2023, expressed, "This marks the initial instance in my existence where I find myself in a body of regular proportions, and I must acquire the skills to adapt to this new reality," as conveyed to Newsweek.

Brown made the decision to make significant changes in her life after receiving distressing news in July 2019. Her doctor informed her that she had Type 2 diabetes, which prompted her to reflect on her past neglect of her health. Recognizing the importance of taking care of her metabolic well-being, she resolved to make the necessary adjustments.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), individuals who are overweight or obese face a higher risk of developing various serious diseases and health conditions compared to those with a healthy weight. These conditions encompass a wide range, including mortality, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, and Type 2 diabetes.

Following her diabetes diagnosis, Brown embarked on a weight loss journey in 2019, starting with fundamental changes to her diet and incorporating outdoor walks into her routine. She dedicated herself to walking three to six miles daily. However, due to the harsh winters in Iowa, she decided to purchase a treadmill in 2020 to continue her walking indoors.

Brown experienced remarkable progress through her walking regimen, shedding approximately 70 pounds. In January 2022, she made the decision to transition from walking to running on the treadmill. She set a goal of running one mile each day, regardless of the time it took. Since then, she has maintained her running routine consistently.

Reflecting on her weight loss journey, Brown acknowledged that she had attempted various methods throughout her life but had never approached it with the same mindset of committing to daily action, regardless of the circumstances. This shift in mindset proved to be transformative for her.

As time went on, Brown gradually increased her running distance. Presently, she runs anywhere from one to four miles daily, complemented by strength training sessions two to three times per week. Additionally, she engages in activities that she finds enjoyable, such as walking her dog, going on walks, bike rides, and hikes with her family.

By September 2022, Brown had successfully reduced her weight to 244 pounds, achieving a remarkable total weight loss of 98 pounds solely through her dedication to exercise and a healthy diet.
