ðŸ‘‰As the saying goes, health is the root of all happiness. Health is the most valuable asset of a human being. A person's happiness depends on their health. Money, success, fame, honor, influence and prestige are all meaningless to a man of broken health.

Multi-ingredient herbal supplement boosts cognitive speed and gut health in seniors

In a study published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition, researchers from the United Kingdom examined the effects of a multi-ingredient herbal supplement on the cognitive abilities and gut microbiota of elderly patients who reported a decline in memory. The study lasted for 90 days and involved 128 participants between the ages of 55 and 75.

The researchers found that the supplementation led to memory deficits in the participants, but it also improved their cognitive task performance. Interestingly, the intervention was associated with higher levels of tyrosine in the urine and reduced levels of three bacterial species in the gut.

Previous research has focused on the effects of individual herbs on brain function, but there is limited information on the combined intake of herbal compounds. Combination products, like the one used in this study, are designed to enhance the effects of individual ingredients through potential synergy. However, this synergy may not be apparent when the compounds are taken individually.

Phytochemicals such as phenolics, terpenes, micro- and macro-nutrients, and polysaccharides have been shown to potentially support brain function by offering neuroprotection, interacting with neurotransmitter systems, supporting metabolism, and facilitating communication in the gut-brain axis. Despite this evidence, there is a lack of research on the combined effects of these ingredients.

To address this gap, the researchers evaluated the impact of a multi-ingredient supplement on cognitive function, urinary metabolome, and gut microbiome in older adults experiencing subjective memory decline. The study was conducted using a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-group design.

During the study, the participants self-reported a decline in memory compared to their younger years but were otherwise healthy. They were randomly assigned to receive either two capsules of a placebo or the herbal supplement called "Turmeric Brainwave" with their daily breakfast.

In conclusion, this study sheds light on the effects of a multi-ingredient herbal supplement on cognitive abilities and gut microbiota in elderly individuals with subjective memory decline. The findings suggest that while the intervention may lead to memory deficits, it also improves cognitive task performance. The study highlights the need for further research on the combined effects of herbal compounds and their potential benefits for brain health.
