Before leaving the house, he brings a small cooler with cut-up veggies and fruit, such as baby carrots, celery, apples, and bananas, to keep him going in between actual meals. For lunch, he usually has homemade tuna salad by itself or over a bed of lettuce. Between lunch and dinner, he has a cup of coffee without sweetener and a protein bar. Dinner is the meal he looks forward to the most, which usually consists of a vegetable stir fry with whatever fish or shrimp he and his wife have at home. Galanis grills the veggies and fish as long as the weather permits. He avoids store-bought sauces when grocery shopping, saying they're full of sugar. Galanis has personally invented what he calls a Good Bowl, which is a chopped veggie bowl that he prepares on a Sunday and lasts for the week. He chops up whatever veggies he has like celery, cabbage, carrots, and cucumbers in small pieces and mixes them all up in a large bowl. It stays sealed up in the fridge, and whenever he finds himself in need of a snack, he helps himself to a cup. Galanis has also created several of his own low-calorie dips and dressings, which has made eating vegetables easier. He usually uses zero sugar barbeque sauce and adds hot sauce to it.

He emphasized that claiming complete recovery would be dishonest, as he has learned to coexist with his addiction, facing a daily struggle of its own.
In an interview with Newsweek, Galanis asserted that anyone can achieve what he did if they possess an intense desire for change, surpassing any other desires they may have had. However, he emphasized that reaching the weight-loss goal is merely the initial step.
"For me, I've come to realize that it's an ongoing challenge that I will have to combat for the rest of my life," Galanis stated. "My advice would be to acknowledge it and confront it directly. It's a matter of mind over body."
