HEALTH

ðŸ‘‰As the saying goes, health is the root of all happiness. Health is the most valuable asset of a human being. A person's happiness depends on their health. Money, success, fame, honor, influence and prestige are all meaningless to a man of broken health.

The Lancet Wants to Decriminalize Consuming Hard Drugs

I have provided numerous examples throughout these pages on multiple occasions. To be honest, I could share several examples every month. And now, in line with what is expected, The Lancet has expressed its support for the legalization of hard drugs under the guise of "health" and the popular concept of "harm reduction" favored by progressives. This is taken from the article "Drug Decriminalisation: Grounding Policy in Evidence."

The latest report from the Global Commission on Drug Policy, released before World AIDS Day on December 1st, highlights the decriminalization of drug use as a crucial step towards eliminating HIV and viral hepatitis as public health threats. Since its establishment in 2011 by influential figures in politics, economics, and culture, the Commission has advocated for decriminalization as part of a rights-based approach to drug policy. This approach is based on scientific evidence and principles of public health, aiming to minimize the harms associated with drug use.

However, decriminalization alone is not enough. The Commission's report emphasizes the importance of expanding harm reduction strategies alongside the decriminalization of personal drug possession and use. Taking Portugal as an example, here is what such harm reduction measures would involve:

Comprehensive medical, psychological, and social support must accompany decriminalization to address various factors that may contribute to drug use, such as homelessness, unstable housing, mental health issues, poverty, racial disparities, and limited access to healthcare.

But let's not forget what was said about emptying mental asylums, shall we? Whatever happened in Portugal may not necessarily occur in most other places. Furthermore, Portugal's experiment with drug decriminalization is showing signs of failure.

Moreover, there is ample contradictory evidence that the editorial conveniently ignores. Just look at San Francisco, where drug decriminalization, both through inaction and formal policies, dominates the landscape. What do we witness? Filth in the streets, open-air drug markets and consumption, used needles littering parks and city streets, and the necessity to distribute Narcan to try and prevent overdose deaths. It is an utter disaster.
